Beginning/Intermediate Seminar Information


    Beginning Seminar:

    A theoretical and practical approach to the implementation of the RDI® Program, this four-day seminar develops the clinician's ability to:

    • Evaluate parent and child readiness
    • Consult with parents to frame activities for effective intervention
    • Consult with parents to incorporate RDI® Program into real-life activities
    • Consult with parents to use appropriate scaffolding and spotlighting techniques
    • Consult with parents to implement regulation into all aspects of their child�s day before introducing challenge
    Prerequisites:
    • Read Solving the Relationship Puzzle
    • Two-day Introductory RDI® Program workshop or DVD, "Going to the Heart of Autism"
    • Bachelor's degree is the minimal academic requirement
    • Professional experience in related clinical interventions
    • Application for Certification ($50 non-refundable processing fee) and RDI® Program Contract. Once Application is approved, we will mail you an official copy of the RDI® Program Contract. You must sign it and return it to us. Upon receipt of your contract, we will then contact you for your deposit information. To read the RDI® Program Contract, click here.
    • If you are a parent of a child on the Autism Spectrum your letter of recommendation must be from your RDI® Consultant. The letter must include the following: He/She must verify that you and your partner/spouse have mastered all parent objectives through stage 4 and are currently working on stage 5 of the parent objectives, he/she must verify that you and your partner/spouse have consistently met with him/her every 2 weeks over the last 6 months, and he/she must verify that you and your partner/spouse have consistently submitted video clips to your consultant of your work with your child every 2 weeks over the last 6 months.
    Intermediate Seminar:

    Both theoretical and practical, this four-day seminar focuses on:

    • Pathogenesis of Autism Spectrum Disorders
    • The Process of Guided Participation
    • Functioning as an RDI® Program Consultant
    • Using the RDA� to evaluate the parent-child relationship
    • Developing hypotheses for treatment planning, including system readiness, strengths and obstacles

    Important Information:

    • All seminars are facilitated by Dr. Steven Gutstein and/or Dr. Rachelle Sheely. To learn more about Dr. Gutstein and Dr. Sheely click here.
    • Length of seminar is four days for Beginning and four days for Intermediate
    • Seminar hours are 9:00AM - 4:00PM
    • Reservations require a $3520 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit with balance of $3520 due ten business days prior to Beginning Seminar. This covers registration for the Beginning and Intermediate Seminars, as well as professional supervision. Prices subject to change. Payment must come directly from the professional - we cannot accept payments from third parties, agencies, or organizations.
    • If attending seminars individually, the cost for each seminar is $2200 ($1100 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit with balance due two weeks prior to seminar). Supervision is $2640. It can be paid in full or divided up into two 50% non-refundable payments (first payment is due when registering for the Intermediate Seminar and balance due ten business days prior to Intermediate seminar). Prices subject to change. Payment must come directly from the professional - we cannot accept payments from third parties, agencies, or organizations.
    • We regret that we do not accept checks. We accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) or cashier's checks from American banks.
    • There is a $300 administrative fee if a transfer is necessary for emergency reasons (no refunds).
    • All professional certification seminars are offered at our training facility in Houston, Texas.
    • Professionals must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.


    2008 Dates
    • December 2-5 (Beginning) and 8-11 (Intermediate)

    Supervision Expectations
    • Consultants-in-Training are required to work with two families through the RDIos™ (online communication system) as part of the Certification Program. These families must have a child formally diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This work will be submitted via our secure server for review by a supervising Consultant. If you do not believe you will have two dedicated families, please wait to register for a future Beginning/Intermediate.
    • Deadline for Tape 1 (NT RDA1): 5 weeks after Intermediate Seminar
    • Deadline for Subsequent Tapes: Typically, two weeks after previous tape is approved.
    • You must be able to comply with these deadlines to regsiter.
