The Learning Support Community provides for a multitude of different groups, each having their own identity, members, blogs, forums, resource sharing, but also completely integrated with the larger community. Any user can belong to multiple communities. Groups might be based on criteria such as: disability, language, culture, geographic area, level of readiness/progress, age of student, hobbies or interests, professional affiliation.
For Professionals
The Learning Support Community meets the specific requirements of our professional members. Tutorials for professionals offer education in many areas related to their current needs and ongoing development.
The on line training and supervision system provides a highly effective interface for distance learning and consultation. Professionals are able to pool their resources and wisdom to create a collective energy and a supportive peer environment.
For Parents
The Learning Support Community meets the unique needs of our parent members. Tutorials cover our carefully designed curriculum teaching parents to become effective guides, giving them the information they need to function as an advocate. E-Learning, forums and webinars are devoted to: understanding your child's disability, preparing for IEPs and understanding rights, and navigating community resources. The latest research findings related to specific disibilites are frequently updated and easily accessible in a reliable system.
This system is also helpful for providing a workable solution for families where parents are separated from each other, living in rural areas or are geographically separated from their consultant. In situations where face-to-face services are not accesible, this allows both parents to remain involved in problem solving and decision making on a day-to-day basis.
The peer community networks decrease the isolation of parents with a disabled child and brings families with common needs together. Parents at every stage of the process are available to offer support and guidance, for novice and veteran families discovering obstacles, problem solving and celebrating their latest milestones.
