I have been passionate about children all my life. I started off working as learn to skate coach, camp leader and later got my first degree in Tourism and Recreation Management with a major in Recreation where I learned the value of play. After a few years of being a Recreation Director I decided I liked being on the floor with the kids and seniors more then shuffling papers which is what I was doing mostly.
I went back to school and took the Rehabilitation Assistant program at Capilano University in North Vancouver which trained me to be an assistant to a Speech language pathologist, an Occupation therapist and a Physio therapist with every intention of working with kids when I got out. Just before I was done my last practicum I was hired at a local children’s therapy center where I did a lot of intervention but soon found I did not align with how things were done. I did not like I was told “we only deal with the kids, that is an adult problem” .
A large part of who a child becomes and how a child develops has to do with the environment they are growing up in. I spend some time researching Family theory and started looking for other ways of approaching what my clients were dealing with. I stopped blindly following what I was told to do and started to look for other resources and that is when I found RDI and fell in love with it. Now that I have found it there is no going back. I feel like I found the thing I was placed on this earth to do.
