The RDI Program approached intervention from three essential areas:
- Identifying and reducing the impact of problems that prevent the child from taking advantage of growth-promoting opportunities provided by a Guiding Relationship
- Providing guidance and support to enable parents and children to build the foundations for parents to function as Mindful Guides and children to actively contribute as mental Apprentices
- Teaching parents how to employ Mindful Guiding to build essential skills for ongoing mental and self growth
